Celebrating Stamford Bridge
Hot on the heels of Liverpool, Chelsea have now announced next season’s home kit in time for their last home game of the season on 4 May.
The design is a little shocking at first, with what seems like random lines cutting across all of the shirt. They have eschewed the usual clean top for one with a graphic with imagery of sections of Stamford Bridge. The North Stand, the East and West Stands and the Shed End merges into a large abstract print.
The shirt features a V-neck and a red and white CFC monogram on the back of the collar. Inside, there’s a lion (borrowed from the club crest) with “Pride of London” written around it (the Blues mantra). The shorts, also blue, are complemented by white socks that have Chelsea’s traditional red and blue trim up the calf.
I’m not sure what I feel about this. It looks too “busy” to be an official home kit. Such designs are usually seen on training kits or even away kits (as seen this year). This is a slight change in Nike’s design philosophy and it’ll be fascinating to see what they churn up for the other team kits under the swoosh.
