All hail the return of the king.
It was only in early July that we got a taste of a classic Predator remake. Clad in electricity yellow and red, it caught the world by storm as the like-for-like remodel made us dream of simpler days. It was a pretty smart move by adidas who have been peddling remakes of their old boots but this was the first time they managed to replicate the full upper from 20 years ago.
The July experiment went well and now they’ve gone full fledged OG with this Predator Accelerator remake. Red, white and black is the order of the day but do get them as quickly as you can as there are only 1,999 units available worldwide.

The upper is what you’d expect to get with an older leather boot model. It’s bulkier and thicker than something you would be used to today. If you’re going to be wearing this for the field, it might need a few sessions before the leather is thoroughly broken in and softens up. While many may not like the brick-like sensation on feet, the ping-y effect from hitting the sweet spot cannot be replicated by any of today’s boots. Oh how we long for the rubber swerve fins on future Predators.
adidas has updated the boot for modern times with a soft suede heel lining for comfort and fit while inserting a Boost insole. All of that is built on a modern Predator soleplate that is lighter than the original.
The Predator Accelerator is only available in very limited quantities and is priced at a steep price (over S$450 per pair). If we were you, we’d leave the on-pitch control for the modern adidas Predator 18.1 while saving the Accelerator for a spot on your collector’s case. It’s too precious a set to be treated to the hustle and bustle of the game.
