Chelsea’s Third Kit Meets NikeConnect

For the first time, NikeConnect technology will be featured in a football jersey with the new third kit for Chelsea FC and its 2018-19 season. NikeConnect started with their collaboration with the NBA, placing a tag on the jersey which could be scanned with the Nike app to give users access to exclusive content and deals through the app.

They can also participate in the development of a special Chelsea FC Shirtholder’s Edition “Fan Jersey.” This co-creation experience includes collaborating with Nike designers to create an exclusive jersey available only to current owners of the Chelsea kit.

Lest we forget the jersey itself, a cool teal colour sporting a map of the area surrounding Stamford Bridge with crimson details. The new third kit will be worn during the club’s European campaign this season.

Atletico Madrid Third Jersey 2018/19

Atletico Madrid is marking its territory as aggressively as the players do on the pitch. This third jersey by Nike for the 2018/19 season channels the spirit of the Fountain of Neptune, found in the center of the Madrid Plaza, where they celebrate their trophies won at the end of each season.

The blue base represents the water that flows through the fountain and the orange detailing are inspired by the city’s sunshine bouncing off Neptune’s trident. Naturally with Nike’s third kits, we see an aerial map of the local community with the map of Madrid printed across the front of the jersey.

“This season our designers have been taking inspiration from the urban environment, which provides the backdrop to clubs and their fanbases,” says Pete Hoppins, Nike Football Apparel Senior Design Director. “With Atlético, the symbolic value of the fountain gave us the creative spark for the color palette and the dynamic combination of blue and orange.”

Manchester City Third Jersey 2018/19

The infamous sash returns in Nike’s third jersey for Manchester City in the 2018/19 season. It was a popular design for City fans when it last made an appearance during the 2010/11 season. The orange sash is overlayed nicely against a dark purple base to create a striking look that is as easy on the eye as Guardiola’s brand of football.

As with Nike’s third jerseys this year, the print on the front of the kit features a map of the local community surrounding the club. In this case, it’s an aerial view of industrial East Manchester, the Etihad Stadium and its surrounding area though the print is a lot more subtle than other Nike third kits.

AS Roma Third Jersey 2018/19

The latest jersey to drop by Nike is quite a sight to behold. The swoosh has harnessed the essence of the AS Roma’s history and has imprinted a series of aerial map views of key moments in Roman history, from ancient times to present, to form a distinctive pattern on a fiery gold jersey.

“For 2018-19, our third kits have been exploring the cities these clubs represent, and in the case of Rome, what really makes it special is this long and colorful history, full of myth and legend,” explains Pete Hoppins, Nike Football Apparel Senior Design Director. “We really wanted to delve into that and do it justice with this design.”

This isn’t the first time Nike has placed a map on a jersey, having done so for Tottenham Hotspur this season. It seems that Nike is trying their best to hammer home the club’s ties to its community though it does seem a little try-hard.

Bayern Munich Third Jersey 2018/19

The German giants have been killing it with their home and away jerseys this season and their Bayern Munich third jersey for the 2018/19 season is right up there with the best. Hummels and co. will be sporting a steel grey number for games that require them to don the third jersey.

As per the other Parley Oceans Plastics collaborations with the three stripes, this jersey features a metallic sheen, subtle strips and clean white trims that flows through from the top to bottom of the kit.
