Nike Black History Month UK

Nike celebrates influential black athletes with this stellar kit.

Never one to shy away from a civic cause, Nike Football has been celebrating Black History Month with awesome designs on their football boots. This year, they flipped the script to launch a series of jerseys instead.

The likes of Sterling and Rashford have often used their voice against racism and it’s only apt that they are the face of this campaign – especially as the kits are designed as a symbol of solidarity and a shared identity. The players sported the new kits during the current international camp and are well supported by other senior England players like Jadon Sancho, Tammy Abraham and Jordan Henderson.

Nike believes that “sport has the power to unite and that all athletes should be treated equally” and this is a celebration of “black British athletes and their contribution to sport across an array of avenues that include providing pathways to success, celebrating the community through sport and integrating solidarity as a symbol through the Nike brand.”

For-profit companies who work on civic movements usually raise eyebrows as it’s usually a cheap ploy/gimmick to make a quick buck. However, Nike seems to have found that balance in being genuine in their support while maintaining their commercial interests – all this while churning out killer designs in their products.

Nike Black History Month - England Training

On top of Black History Month, Nike have also invested their time and money in other programs, partnering with the likes of Sported, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and more to help raise opportunities for black British athletes, women and undeserved minority youth in the UK – all of which you can read about here.

It’s unfortunate that we won’t be getting our hands on these beautiful kits in Singapore as they seem to be UK exclusives on Nike.com. And if you happen to be in London, NikeTown London will be hosting a photography exhibition to celebrate black British athletic performance and contribution to sport.
