Sleek, dangerous and modern. The Predator has been a fantastic successor to its legendary namesake and the Ace silo. Made for the playmaker and all-controlling midfielder, the Energy Mode Predator 18+ pays tribute to the yellow electricity colourway of the Adidas Predator Accelerator from 1999.
The laceless boot features Forged Knit technology that works as a compression and stability material to offer lockdown for your foot of any shape or size. The upper is also built with Controlskin, a light synthetic material which mimics the softness of leather that is designed with an aggressive design meant to assist with grip. While many would pine for the rubber strips of Predators old, the Controlskin seems like a middle ground between the aggressive touch of the past with the sleek design principles of the present.
Like the X18+, the soleplate comes in a wearable chrome finish which is sure to delight the boot collectors out there but would be the bane of those taking this bad boy to the pitch. The money shot for us is the subtle red lines that appear on the medial and lateral side of the sock as it stretches to fit your leg. The devil’s in the details and the red just adds that dash of aggression that hasn’t been in seen in a Predator since the Pulse in 2004.
All in all, The Predator 18+ is not a boot you’ll be able to take your eyes off when they take to the pitch in Russia. With Ozil, Pogba and Dele Alli take the wheels behind this bad boy, it’ll be making headlines through the World Cup for sure.
The Adidas Energy Mode Predator 18+ is available now at Adidas.com.
