We take a look at some classic boots when legends from Liverpool, Man United and Singapore locked horns.
It was a night to remember for Liverpool and Manchester United fans in Singapore as veterans of the game donned their kits and boots one more time to do battle in the sweltering humidity of Singapore. The Battle of the Reds 2019 was not short of goals but, naturally, it was the selection of boots (old and new) that piqued our attention.

Aleksandar Duric – adidas Nemeziz 19.1 (Encryption Pack)
Singapore’s eternal talisman is 49 but was easily one of the best players on the pitch. He led the line in both games and admirably held the ball well for his teammates. Whether it was running the channels or dropping back to be a passing option, Duric always delivers for Singapore as he scored 2 goals against Liverpool in the eye-catching adidas Nemeziz 19.1 from the latest Encryption Pack. An apt boot for a player showing great agility as he approaches his 50s.

Jermaine Pennant – Nike Mercurial Vapor 8
At first glance, I thought the ex-Tampines Rovers Liverpool forward was donning a recent colourway of the adidas X19.1. Upon closer inspection, he’s actually dusted off a really old pair of Nike Mercurial Vapor 8 from 2012 (!). How it hasn’t crumbled since he first wore them is anyone’s guess but Pennant looked spritely in them as he slalomed past most of the defenders with ease consider his relative youth (36 years old).
Teddy Sheringham – Nike Tiempo Legend 6
A lethal and clever striker back in the day, Sheringham opted for the supreme comfort of the Nike Tiempo Legend 6 as he took on rivals, Liverpool. I owned one myself and it remains one of my favourite boots of all time with its sleek design, super soft leather and superior lockdown. He’s going to need all the comfort he can get on that bumpy pitch.
Emile Heskey – Nike PhantomVNM Elite
I expected good ol’ Emile to rock up in a classic leather boot but in turn, he went full on modern day with the Nike PhantomVNM Elite in the Battle of the Reds. Built to help strikers add more curl to their shot, Heskey was ironically shot shy – instead squaring the ball to an onrushing Luis Garcia for the tap in. Typical Heskey.

Ronny Johnsen – adidas F50 Adizero Samba
And we’ve saved the best for last. The adidas F50 adizero were supremely popular back in the day and it’s donned by none other than treble-winning defender, Ronny Johnsen. The Norwegian centre back looked his imperious self next to Wes Brown as he distributed the ball from the back in retro style with the boots that made its debut in the 2014 Champions League quarter finals.
