Nike serves up more nostalgia for Barcelona.
Nike is hitting it out of the park with their third kits. Chelsea got a 90s inspired jersey and it seems that the Barcelona are next in line to receive a modern classic.
The Catalan giants’ third kit will be decked in teal green – reminiscent of the 96/97 season where they won both the Copa del Rey and UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup – spearheaded by the legendary Ronaldo who scored 47 goals in all competitions.
The teal shade is stylishly set off by a retro V-neck collar, which features a thick Blaugrana trim, and sleeves with a dark blue trim. Meanwhile, the club’s hallowed status at the heart of Catalonia is celebrated through an all-over, diamond-shaped jacquard pattern, inspired by Barcelona’s coat of arms.
“When you see this color, you think of Ronaldo, Guardiola, Stoichkov, Luis Enrique…so many great players” says Barça center-back Gerard Piqué. “It will be a pleasure to wear this kit and bring our fans joy with victories both at home and abroad.”
It’s the small details that pop for me. That collar is ace while many love the return of the classic “Futura” Nike logo that has been appearing on these classic-inspired third kits. I’m usually not a fan of 90s fashion but Nike’s got me changing my mind about the age of the boy bands and floppy hair.
