Boot Spotting: Referee Edition

It’s not everyday that we notice something different on the feet of the referee. They’re usually decked out in Nike Premiers for English Premier League games but during this World Cup, the Copa Mundials have been a main feature for these practitioners of VAR.

The boots looks inconspicuous with a blacked out colourway but @nthn_thompson on Instagram pointed out that there were some neat touches on these boots that were made just for the World Cup. Scroll down below for a closer look on these modern classics.

Boot Spotting: World Cup, 22 – 28 June

0

Another week has passed and we’ve been treated to a glut of goals and amazing performances in Russia. We continue our dive into the world of boot spotting as we highlight our favourite boots on feet in Week 2 of the World Cup.

Granit Xhaka, Switzerland – Under Armour Magnetico Pro (Custom World Cup Design)

A relatively new player in the football boot game, Under Armour have impressed a lot with the Magnetico Pro featuring an extremely soft and thin synthetic upper that takes the best of both leather and synthetics. They have created a custom design for their key sponsored player, Granit Xhaka. See below for a close up on the 2 designs to go with Switzerland’s home and away kits.

Takashi Inui, Japan – Asics DS Light X-Fly 3

A brand synonymous with running, not football. The effervescent Inui was a revelation for Japan vs Senegal, creating chances and scoring a crucial goal from the left in a rare pair of Asics boots.

Thiago Cionek, Poland – Lotto Stadio Potenza

A rare outing by Lotto, we’re seeing this model for the first time. What we assume is the Lotto Stadio Potenza, Cionek and his teammates crashed out of the World Cup with a whimper.

Salif Sane, Senegal – Custom Mercurial Vapor 12

Sane brought the speed in defence against the Japanese with custom artwork by French artist, Silni. It features a lion, inspired by the Senegalese crest. Based on their performances, don’t be surprised if Senegal progresses to the next round as group leaders.

Paulo Dybala, Argentina – Adidas Glitch 2.0
The long awaited debut of the Glitch was made by Dybala who came on as a sub for an Argentin side struggling to gain any coherence to their game play. We hope they stay on so that we can catch more glimpses of the Glitch at the World Cup.
