Man City embark on their first year with Puma.
The reigning Premier League champions have made the switch to the big cat – marking this the first year of a lucrative 10 year partnership. This landmark moment also coincides with Manchester City’s 125th year anniversary.
Puma have produced a decent home kit that features the iconic sky blue with purple trims around the shoulder and sleeve. The home design also features a subtle wave effect that’s reminiscent of the print on the Puma One 19.1.
It’s the away kit that may polarise fans. It is a homage to the “Madchester” in the late 1980s and early 1990s which spawned a cultural revolution including a former nightclub, “The Hacienda” which was an epicentre of music in the region.
Using black colour as a base, the away kit features yellow stripes on the left shoulder – a reference to The Haçienda’s iconic graphic identity. A splash of blue and peach adds a pop to the sleeves.
While both kits look pretty decent (we’ve got our eyes on that home kit), we can’t help but have been disappointed to see only a simple “125 years” text under the crest to celebrate this major milestone.
Such events are usually marked with designs that are more elaborate and celebratory than a line of text that could have been created in Microsoft Word.
The Manchester City jerseys retail for SG$99 and can be purchased in Singapore at Puma.com, various Puma outlets and Weston Corp.
